3 THINGS THURSDAY - 1 July 2021

This is me, sitting in my home office writing today's blog with some good and bad news. Good news is it is the last time you will have to see my ugly mug in your inbox for a long time. I have decided it is time to hang up the 3 Things Thursday Boots. It has been an amazing 2 years of writing this blog every week (well OK I missed a few weeks). But like all great things, the time comes to move on. Especially for me with a creator personality type (you can check out yours HERE) I am always looking for the next project to put my creative juices to. So, stay tuned.

For now, though I want to thank you for coming along with me for the ride, I hope that I shared some useful tips and insights from my week that was.

Ps. There was no bad news.


So let me leave you with my 3 top learnings over the last 2 years from my 3 Things Thursday project.


Here are the top three things that have made a difference in my week.
They might also be useful for you, or not.


1) It is amazing to reflect...

Just sitting here now knowing I won't be taking the time to reflect on my week and distill out, then articulate (sometimes poorly) the 3 pieces of gold from my week leave me a little sad. Every week I would go through my Facebook posts (I use Facebook as a journal), my calendar, and my notebook. It is amazing how much happens in a week. I would often find myself laughing, crying, and every emotion in between at the roller coaster ride that is life. More than that though it was the insights I looked for in the reflection. What was the learning that I could share?

I will miss this but hope that the new project will give me an opportunity to start this again.

2) Rituals are powerful...

It was a ritual of mine to either write my blog whilst getting my car washed at the local Magic Car Wash, whilst having a coffee at the Winey Cow, or whilst sipping a glass of Foxeys Hangout Pinot Gris at the kitchen bench chatting with Michelle and the kids. This Wednesday ritual was always kicked off at about 10 am with a Voxer message from my VA Jo “Hi Dr. Ben.. Good morning.. How have you been? Do we have 3TT this week? Thanks!”. By the way, Jo has been amazing at giving me the accountability around writing the blog and doing all the postproduction, emailing, and posting. AMAZING!

This ritual I will also miss.


3) I take a lot of pictures...

Every week I was amazed at how many pictures I took. Very few of them were static images or landscapes, most of them were pictures with people, especially pictures with me in them. Maybe it is partly due to my declining memory (seriously ask Michelle) but I love looking back at the pictures every week that showed a moment in MY life. So many are consumed by the lives of others, not wanting to take a moment to reflect on their own life because it is too painful. The truth is there were often pictures that were uncomfortable and painful to look at, but I feel it’s better to stare into the pain and see the truth. Life sometimes is tough; it is not always going to go to plan. Do not let it define you. Take more pictures of yourself. Soon you’ll be losing your memory like me, and they’ll be useful.

I wish you all the best on your journey, make a ritual of looking for the gold in your life, it is there, you just got to look.
