3 THINGS THURSDAY - 5th Mar 2020

Pic of the Week

Yep, my beautiful wife after 27 yrs of marriage (our anniversary) finally agreed to go camping. Well, not exactly camping. Glamping! Hang-on, before you judge her, we did have to use communal toilets and showers. Seriously though it was great fun, and a good way to sleep outdoors without the setup and pack up bit. Plus you are sleeping on a real bed, which I must admit was a nice change from my 4mm hike mat. Actually that's the other difference to my usual hike camping, it wasn't a tiny 2man hike tent, and I didn't wake up next to Dr. Carl in the morning (no offence Carl). Great for a romantic getaway, check them out Iluka Retreat and Camp.

Here are the top three things that have made a difference in my week.
They might also be useful for you, or not.

1) A lunch I had...

Martha’s Table. Joel the head chef is a client of mine and super passionate about what he does. I just had to go down (wedding anniversary lunch) and check it out. Amazing! The premium dining room has unparalleled views of the Marina, it is beautifully decorated, and service is amazing. The dishes are simple and delicious. We had the degustation menu which was well priced. A definite must for a date night or lunch.

Ask for the curved couch seats, best views and you get to sit next to your date. Yep, it's important to make time for date night. With kids, work and all the rest that goes on with life sometimes we forget the most important things like our relationship and keeping the flame more than just a light, but burning bright. When was the last time you organized a date with your partner?

2) Another item I bought for the Adventure race...

Salomon Waterproof Jacket. Don’t tell Michelle I’ve just bought something else for this Adventure race. When she finally notices it I’ll tell her “what this old thing? I’ve had it for ages, plus I got it on sale”. You know what I mean ladies. Anyway, they have limited stock remaining at the Frankston store so be quick. This jacket is super lightweight, wind and waterproof. It packs into an internal bag the size of a small purse. Great for carrying in your pack, for those emergency weather changes. RRP is $229 on sale for $120.

3) Something I’m worried about...

Corona Virus. Well not about the virus itself but about the power the media has to create panic, paranoia, and polarisation around an issue. It’s frightening the massive impact they have on politics, healthcare, financial markets and day to day life worldwide. I’m not going to share my opinion about whether Coronavirus is a non-event, whether we should be shutting universities down, altering travel plans, not shaking hands, stockpiling toilet paper, and compromising our countries economy. I’m not. It does remind me however of that saying, “when China sneezes the world catches a cold” except it's more like “when the media vomits and we all get gastro.”

Ps. My favorite quote this week is : “There's so many lies being told throughout the media and people just run with the lies. They're numb to it. Too many followers, not enough leaders.” - Big Boi

I would love your feedback on what had an impact on you and the lesson in it, moral of the story, or learning you would share.

Have a ripper finish to your week.

Cheers, Dr. Ben
