Pic of the Week
I love a haircut at the best of times. But to get one after 12 weeks, when I am normally every 3 weeks was amazing. James at the Barber Shop and Co did in my opinion a great job, in taming what had become something resembling a lion's mane.
Love to know who has jumped on getting a haircut ASAP. Let me know?
Here are the top three things that have made a difference in my week.
They might also be useful for you, or not.
1) A great interview I watched...
Swimming with Great Whites: Michael Muller | Rich Roll Podcast. The careers people sometimes end up with always amaze me. I find myself often asking people “how did you get into that?” Michael Muller is one of those guys. He is Hollywood's premiere celebrity photographer -- a guy who has created legendary images of everyone who is anyone. The question isn’t who he has photographed, it’s who he hasn’t. But Michael’s truest passion — and the primary focus of today’s exchange — are great white sharks. Documenting them on film. Understanding them. Educating others about them. And most importantly, preserving them.
At the 50min mark you get to see some of that footage. Or a quick teaser is HERE.
2) A belief I had confirmed this week...
People want to offer their wisdom if you ask. (Or look helpless / hopeless) I caught up with my kiteboarding mate last weekend down at the beach. It is a spot where all the local Frankston kiteboarders hangout. Within minutes of me getting down there I had 3 of the pro’s giving me advice. One of the blokes, Rob (The Hoff), skipped kiteboarding himself to spend four hours giving me advice. Then another guy John (Jumpin’ Jonny) joined in to hold me down whilst I put the kite into the power zone. Then another guy Joff (I think that is his name) shared some wisdom and sold me his unused kiteboarding gear.
The belief that people who are passionate about their craft are more than happy to mentor you if you ask. What do you want to learn? Who would you ask to teach or mentor you? GO ASK THEM! (Or just look pathetic on the beach like me and wait for them to come to your rescue.)
3) A challenging book I am reading...
Reinventing Organizations by Frederick Laloux. Must say I find this book and its concepts challenging. I have always operated my business organization models based on a very different strategy than the one Frederick talks about. I’m still not sure about it but I love being challenged by its thinking and how it might apply to the daily operations of my organizations. Be prepared to be challenged and uplifted by this book.
You can check out the explainer video’s HERE. (all 180 of them) If you have a team of 2 or more this book and its concepts are worth exploring. I would love to know what you think.
P.s. The quote of the week is...
“You can’t drive a parked car.” Jason Tolley
I would love your feedback on what had an impact on you and the lesson in it, moral of the story, or learning you would share.
Have a ripper finish to your week.
